People endure so much pain and torment inside their own
bodies and minds. From our very first need to suck our
thumbs to comfort ourselves, we continue looking for ways
to relive our internal discomforts.
Addictions to unhealthy substances and behaviors are self-
soothing gone wrong. How much damage we do to ourselves
and others depends on the type of addiction and how long it
takes us to wake up, get honest and choose something
better. But plenty of people do it and go on to live full and
